Que se passe-t-il dans l’esprit de celui qui entre dans une église armé d’un marteau pour briser une statue ? Et de celui qui cherche à détruire un chef- d’œuvre de peinture moderne en l’aspergeant d’acide ?
C’est pour répondre à ces questions que Barbara Longhi, la grande spécialiste de Dürer, enquête malgré elle sur les faits étranges qui entourent les attentats de Paris en 1995. Conférencière dans la prestigieuse École du Louvre, elle va se trouver aux prises avec un groupe d’étudiants, les Hamadryas, qui ne sont pas uniquement là pour parfaire leur culture artistique.
En décryptant Melencolia, la célèbre gravure de Dürer, elle va tenter de déjouer leur diabolique projet…
