Islande, solstice d’été. Alors que les jours commencent à raccourcir, annonçant l’arrivée des ténèbres sur les terres glacées de l’île, cinq femmes vont disparaître. Leur cadavre laisse voir une étrange et artistique mise en scène. L’officier de police chargé de l’enquête sollicitera le concours de Aurore, fleuriste sensible et solitaire, néanmoins proche de l’une des victimes. À mesure que se dénoue l’intrigue, elle sera confrontée à ses propres démons. Ces meurtres semblent en effet avoir une finalité troublante, un sens…
Délicieusement ambigu, oscillant volontiers entre horreur et poésie, Débâcle est le troisième roman de Laetitia Kermel. À la fois sombre et optimiste, planté dans un décor grandiose et sauvage, il est né d’un désir esthétique et sensoriel : voir se confronter la beauté et la fragilité des fleurs à la puissance brute de la glace et, au-delà, explorer les ressorts dramatiques et les ramifications symboliques de cette union contre-nature. Tout ceci en fait un thriller psychologique pas comme les autres.
À recommander aux amateurs des premiers romans d’Amélie Nothomb (notamment Mercure), d’Olivier Truc ou Camilla Läckberg.
